• Totalpost seals significant deal with MAAG Mercure

        • (L-R) David Hymers, Managing Director of Totalpost; Hans E. Maag, Managing Director at MAAG Mercure; John Leach, Technical Director at Totalpost.

Leading mailroom manufacturer and supplier, Totalpost Services Plc (Totalpost) has signed a significant deal to become the prime worldwide distributor of MAAG Mercure automatic envelope sealing products.

MAAG Mercure, who are based in Switzerland, are the world’s leading manufacturer of high quality mail sealing equipment. These envelope sealers and counters are specialist mail finishing devices that are designed for a wide range of volumes and envelope types.

MAAG Mercure manufacture a range of envelope sealing devices all of them being highly robust, designed for ease use with long lasting rugged construction. The entry level and all the models in the range, are designed for high speed sealing and the first unit has an optional counter enabling the unit to also be used to count envelopes with or without sealing. The next model has the same features and options but comes with “auto stop/start” technology as standard. This means it will stop when the machine runs out of envelopes and automatically restart when more envelopes are added to the hopper. At the top of the range is a machine designed with all previous options as standard but it will also seal C4 “pocket” flaps (flap on the short side) envelopes. This is a feature which is quite unique as whilst the whole range and competitor models can feed C4 “wallet” envelopes (flap on the long side) this last unit allows flexibility of the envelope type and size being used.

Other competitive products on the market have not been designed with sealing as a primary operation. They are usually an add-on pre-feeder to a franking machine and are therefore slower and much less efficient.

The MAAG Mercure sealers are widely used in business areas with varying volumes of mail from government offices with a few 100 items of outgoing mail per day through to large mailing houses or letter shops where the sealer often works alongside large mail inserters. It also allows for short runs of envelopes to be sealed efficiently where perhaps a smaller job has had the insertion done by hand by casual workers and therefore does not need to interrupt the longer runs on a large inserter with the consequent downtime of having to reset envelope insert sizes.

This equipment is also used by businesses that don’t use a franking machine but utilise postage impression on envelopes instead. Public sector organisations frequently use envelope sealers for handling varying batches of outgoing mail. This technology can also be used to count incoming mail as it has a highly accurate “count only” function.

Totalpost will now distribute MAAG Mercure sealing equipment worldwide. They have a worldwide agreement with specialist status in France, South Africa, the US, Canada and India where they have operating businesses. In the US where they have exclusivity (as well other countries) the existing dealers in these regions will now purchase through Totalpost.

Speaking about the deal, David Hymers, Managing Director at Totalpost says: “We have a long history of working with MAAG Mercure (formerly Maag Bros.) and have always favoured their envelope sealing technology as their quality is second to none.

“MAAG Mercure has become aware of our worldwide market reach and our status as a known specialist supplier of mailroom equipment across many international markets. This range of equipment fits very well with Totalpost’s wider portfolio which includes customised mailroom automation and insertion products and specialised mail security screening.

Hans E. Maag, Managing Director at MAAG Mercure commented: “Working with Totalpost gives us a significant opportunity to reach worldwide markets particularly in the mailroom sector. We look forward to developing this working relationship going forward.”
