Innovative hospice invests in Drop-in Centre for palliative care

Welsh charity St David’s Hospice has appointed Manchester-based office design and fit-out specialist Opus 4 to design a new therapy centre.

The new drop-in centre was prompted by the need for a beacon of hope for patients, families, carers, and friends at a time when everything around them looks dark and foreboding.

Cheryl Reeves, Opus 4’s Interior Designer said, “it’s been a pleasure working on such an important project which will help to support those living with a life-limiting illness.

“In just six weeks, we have built an environment that is both bright and uplifting yet comfortable and modern. We have incorporated biophilic design and wellness with multiple areas including a spa, art therapy suite, lounge area, and garden room to provide a relaxed atmosphere as well as quiet places with acoustic capabilities for those who would prefer a serene space to gather thoughts and rest.”

The innovative office design specialist was chosen as a contractor thanks to the firm's ability to work collaboratively and agile when working under a short timescale and on a small budget.

Glenys Sullivan, Matron at Hafan Menai added, “the Hafan Menai Therapy Centre, based on the grounds of Bangor Hospital, will be a supportive service that aims to promote a sense of well-being and a positive approach to living.

“Working with the Opus-4 team was incredibly refreshing. The team were keen to create a dynamic space that supported families and those with life-limiting illnesses, as well as a comfortable and safe place for people in a similar situation to talk and share experiences.”
