International non-profit organisation, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), have released an outreach video to promote the values and benefits for responsibly-sourced forest products.
The two-minute video highlights that around 1.6 billion people rely on forests so sustainable management needs to be carried out to benefit future generations. It also highlights that the PEFC work with local stakeholders and uses a third-party certification and accreditation.
Alun Watkins, Executive Director at PEFC said, “we have developed this new communications tool to provide a snapshot of the PEFC programme; what it involves, why it matters and what companies can do t help secure a future for the world’s forests.”
Asking companies to add ‘PEFC to your procurement policy’ was one of the key messages in the video and as the PEFC connects forests to the marketplace, they are now seeing thousands of global companies producing, buying, and using PEFC-certified products.
According to their first global survey, more consumers are aware of the impact of purchasing decisions, showing a growing demand for more environmental information to be on packaging with 54 percent saying they trusted environmental labels and 80 percent wanting to see companies sourcing from sustainably managed forests. The PEFC added that by stocking and selling the certified products, companies can meet their consumer expectations as well as securing future supplies.
