As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, STAEDTLER is running an event every month during 2016 in association with environmental charity Groundwork Wales. The May event took the form of a river survey to check insects present and pollution levels with children from Fochriw Primary School in Bargoed.
Two groups of 25 children from the school visited the local river accompanied by the Groundwork River Health expert, Hywel Abbott, and two representatives from STAEDTLER. The children took water samples to examine animal life content using fishing nets, water trays and pots with magnifying glasses, then used identification charts to name the insects and animals found.
Lisa Davies, Customer Marketing Manager, STAEDTLER (UK) Ltd said, “it was an excellent day. All the children enjoyed the practical elements of the survey. Our findings will now be reported back to several important national studies.”
