The July event in STAEDTLER’s year-long community programme saw children from the Easi Yaz project in Neath enjoy a range of outdoor activities with Groundwork’s Go Green for Health team and two STAEDTLER helpers.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, STAEDTLER is running an event every month during 2016 in association with environmental charity Groundwork Wales. Easi Yaz is a youth group that offers a range of health and wellbeing activities for children and young people up to 25.
The day began at Gnoll Park where STAEDTLER staff were on hand to help out with the activities that included tree climbing and games of tag. The children and young people then had a number of activities to choose from including pond dipping, I Spy Gnoll trail and ‘Rubbish Bugs’ junk sculpture.
Having decided on pond dipping, the children worked in small groups along the water to discover a whole range of water life. Water boatmen, pond skaters, froglets and dragonfly larvae were all found and carefully studied and drawn.
Richard Simpson, Easi Yaz Youth Leader said, “many thanks to Go Green 4 Health for giving the Easi Yaz group the opportunity to discover the joys of the outdoors on their doorstep. The way the children engaged with the pond dipping activity was a joy to see. I don’t think they expected to see such a wide array of creatures. They were also delighted with their STAEDTLER goody bags.”
